Where is Ross Hammock Ranch located?

We’re situated on Florida’s scenic Nature Coast (Gulf side/West Coast), about 90 miles north of Tampa. The ranch is a convenient 1 hour 30 minutes from Tampa International Airport or 1 hour 45 minutes northwest of Orlando International Airport. Several private airports are within 15 minutes of the property.

Do you offer airport pickup?

Yes, we provide complimentary pickup from local private airports. For public airports like Tampa or Orlando, pickup is available for the cost of the driver, tolls, and fuel. Most guests prefer renting a car for added flexibility.

What is the total cost of a trip to Ross Hammock Ranch?

Your total cost includes the daily fee (Silver or Gold option), plus any applicable harvest or hunt fees, and fishing costs if selected. The only added cost is after hunt options such as on site butchering or local taxidermy, which we will help to arrange. Harvest fees are typically charged only when you shoot and hit your targeted game.

Can I stay overnight at the ranch?

Yes! The Silver Option is for day hunts, while the Gold Option includes overnight lodging in private rooms, allowing you to fully immerse in the RHR experience.

What does a typical day look like?

Silver Option: Arrive before sunrise and hunt until dark, with lunch, snacks, and soft drinks provided. Gold Option: Arrive around 1-2 PM, hunt until dark, and enjoy a full dinner and lodging. On subsequent days, you’ll have a continental breakfast, full lunch, and hunting until dark, followed by dinner and a comfortable bed!

What hunting methods are available?

We offer four methods: tree stands, ground blinds, spot-and-stalk, and bay dog hunts for trophy boars.

Is a hunting license required, and do you provide it?

In most cases, your license is included in the daily fee. For alligator hunts, you’ll need to purchase a $55 AGENT license from the state of Florida. For turkey hunts, a Florida license and turkey stamp are required.

What are your hunting seasons?

Non-native game (hogs, axis, fallow, sika, etc.) can be hunted year-round. Most trophy game shed antlers by mid-March and regrow by late August or early September. Whitetail deer season runs September 1 to March 1 (any weapon). Osceola turkey season is mid-March to late April. Axis deer are huntable year-round, with prime hard-horn season from mid-March to December.

Are bow and crossbow hunters welcome?

Absolutely! All our guides are bow hunters, and we have tree stands set for archery, plus 3D archery targets. Many archery industry pro staff hunt at RHR.

What weapons are permitted?

We allow bows, crossbows, rifles, shotguns, pistols, and muzzleloaders.

What if I miss a shot or don’t get a shot?

You only pay the harvest fee (except for Osceola turkey, where fees apply per shot) if you shoot and hit the animal.

Am I pressured to shoot?

No, the choice of which animal to harvest is entirely yours. Our guides will explain everything before you shoot.

Are children allowed?

Yes, we encourage kids to join, emphasizing safety, ethics, and outdoor skills. Children love the RHR experience!

How large is the hunting area?

The main ranch spans over 1000 acres, with 10 miles of perimeter and 50% hardwood hammocks, 25% food plots/cut-downs, and 25% upland pine forest. We also lease hunting rights to nearby private ranches and hundreds of thousands of acres of private wetlands for year-round alligator hunting.

Who cleans the game?

Included in your daily fee, we field dress, skin, quarter, and ice down your game (extra fees apply for large game like buffalo). Guides can teach you these skills if desired.

What about taxidermy?

We skin animals for taxidermy (extra fees for large game like buffalo or alligators) as part of your daily fee. Use a local taxidermist for full service or capeing, or take your game to your preferred taxidermist.

Can I bring non-hunters or observers?

Yes, non-hunters pay a reduced daily fee covering meals, lodging, and joining the hunt. Most tree stands accommodate hunters and observers or cameramen.

Can my hunt be filmed?

Yes, many TV shows are filmed at RHR. Contact us to discuss filming options.

Can I borrow a rifle?

Yes, we provide loaner rifles and ammunition at no extra cost.

What about gratuities?

Tipping the guide is customary, and for overnight stays, tipping the cook and lodge staff is greatly appreciated.

What about trophy whitetail hunts?

We boast some of the largest trophy whitetails in the Southeast, with genetics from Oklahoma, Texas, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Canada. Bucks now score in the mid to upper 200s B&C. Guides provide pricing for specific bucks before you shoot.

Can you accommodate special dietary requests?

Yes, with advance notice, we’ll do our best to meet dietary needs.

23. Can you handle groups?

Yes, we specialize in groups and corporate events.

24. What’s included in fishing trips?

Everything: boat, guide/captain, license, rods/reels, bait, fuel, and fish cleaning.

25. What types of fishing do you offer?

We offer full and half day trips for saltwater flats or freshwater bass fishing, and full-day trips for trophy tarpon or offshore bottom fishing/trolling. Bow fishing is also offered. Boats can hold up to 6 people; if needed, we will reserve a second boat for larger parties.

26. Can I visit the ranch before booking?

Our website and low-risk pricing model usually suffice, but please reach out if there’s anything specific you would like to know.

27. Who are your typical guests?

Our guests range from construction workers, law enforcement, and military to professional athletes and entertainers. Many are father/child or mother/child groups. Some choose RHR for convenience over distant destinations like Alaska or Africa. Everyone is welcome!

28. Is the ranch fenced?

We have both high-fenced and unfenced areas, depending on the species. Florida law requires fencing for non-native game like axis deer. Our 10+ miles of fenced border is five times larger than most Florida preserves.

29. What can non-hunting spouses do?

They can observe hunts or enjoy local activities listed under the “Other Fun” tab on our website.

30. Do I need a reservation?

Yes, all guests require a reservation with a non-refundable deposit. We’ll provide a detailed map and directions.

31. What payment methods do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, personal checks, or cash. Credit cards will carry a 3% processing fee.

32. Do you accept first-time hunters?

Yes, we frequently guide first-time hunters and bow hunters, offering free instruction on sighting in, equipment, tree stand use, tracking, and game cleaning.

33. Are hunting supplies available nearby?

Yes, stores like Out Post Range, Walmart, and Rural King are a short drive away.

34. Are medical facilities nearby?

Yes, there are several medical facilities nearby including an ER. Seven Rivers Hospital is also about 5 miles away.

35. Do I need to sign a liability waiver?

Yes, per Florida Agra-tourism Law, acknowledging that activities like hunting are at your own risk.

36. Is there a place to sight in weapons?

Yes, we have ranges for both firearms and bows.

37. What are your success rates?

Success rates are high, near 100% shot opportunities for non-trophy hogs, buffalo, and management game. Trophy hogs and deer have slightly lower but still excellent rates. You only pay harvest fees (except for turkey) if you shoot and hit the animal.

38. Do you have food plots?

Yes, we maintain year-round grass field food plots, cut-overs, and electric game feeders.

39. What transportation do you use on the ranch?

We use 4-wheelers, Polaris Rangers, and Ford 4×4 crew cab pickups, matched to the hunt and weather conditions.

40. How long has the ranch been operating?

Over 25 years!

41. Can I change the species I hunt?

Yes, you can harvest a different species than booked or take additional animals, paying only the harvest fee for what you take. Only one daily fee per person, per day applies.

42. Can I hunt when other state seasons are closed?

Yes, off-season hunts for trophy boars, meat hogs, axis bucks, blackbucks, management does, or rams are perfect at RHR.

Can I get a written quote?

How do I book a trip?
